Spring Greetings from Hike Ontario!

THIS ISSUE: We announce this year's "Healthy Parks, Healthy People" initiative, encourage participation in the "Healthy Hikes" program, and report on Spring Hike Day 2016. We also provide news on upcoming Training Course dates, announce the Oak Ridges Trail Association's Adventure Relay, and encourage applications for the Long Distance Hike Awards.

As always, stay happy and healthy in the great outdoors, hikers. We wish you Happy Trails!

Healthy Parks, Healthy People

Healthy Parks, Healthy People is on July 15 and all provincial parks are open for Day Use Visitors at no charge! Hike Leaders who wish to lead a hike in a provincial park on this day, may also gain entry to the park ahead of time in order to pre-hike and plan their route. Last year's event was a great success (apart from being the worst weather day the whole province had). .

Spring Hike Day

May 1, 2016

A province-wide celebration by Hike Ontario and our member clubs in recognition of our birthday! In 1975, Premier William Davis proclaimed Sunday April 27, 1975 as Ontario Hiking Day. Now named Spring Hike Day, we celebrate it annually on the first Sunday in May.

Spring Hike Day highlights the recreational benefits of hiking and walking in support of the Province's ACTIVE2010 Project and raises awareness of our ongoing campaign entitled "Hike for the Health of It!"
