Hike Ontario Annual Summit 2024

The Guelph Hiking Trail Club is hosting the 50th Annual Hike Ontario Summit, a conference by and for hikers.

Date: Saturday, September 28, 2024
Location: Guelph Golf and Country Club, 133 Woodlawn Avenue East, Guelph N1E 7H9
Time: 8:00 AM (Hike Ontario AGM.) and 9:30 AM (for Summit conference start)
Cost: $30 for lunch, continental breakfast, coffee/tea, and snacks; Optional or, voluntary “builder” rate of $55

Program Workshops and Keynote Speaker Topics (*) include:

  • Hiking Trail Apps and Maps – a “consumer reports” survey of what’s available to purchase, with pros and cons, to aid your decisions in investing in aids-to-navigation technology.
  • Increasing Diversity in Your Membership – what your Club can and should do
  • Ticks – Their Rapid Spread, and How to Identify the “Baddies”
  • Environmental Conservation and Restoration along the Trail – What you and your Club might do.
  • The University of Guelph Arboretum and its Trails – Managing a Trail System Inside a Growing City
  • Volunteerism 101 – tips on retaining and recruiting volunteers, and filling key positions
  • New Hike Ontario Strategic Plan – the way forward for HO over the next 5 years
  • Safety along the Trail – Risk Management in Practice
  • Latest in Hiking Gear – demonstrations by MEC of Kitchener...selling throughout the day
  • “Open Mike” Session – an expert panel will provoke your questions and lead discussions on any number of topics!

Note: Hike Ontario Annual General Meeting will be followed by Success Stories from the Clubs; and *Presentation of 50 Years of HO Achievements prior to Workshops and Keynote Speaker Topics.
