Mentoring with a Certified Hike Ontario Instructor, you will learn how to harness all those kilometres you've hiked into public speaking, coaching, hiking technique and group management skills and pass them on to others who want to lead the way like you. This unique volunteer opportunity will help Hike Ontario reach our goals of building capacity throughout the province to train hikers right up to the Wilderness levels.
Following our instruction manuals and administration steps, you will learn not only how to teach a course but also how to promote and manage your classes for success with the help of other instructors and the Hike Ontario HQ team.
Qualifications
To apply to become an instructor, candidates must have been certified as a Safe Hiker or a Hike Leader (Certified, Wilderness Day, Wilderness Overnight) or demonstrate significant and validated equivalent experience which will be assessed and verified by Hike Ontario.
Commitment
Apart from instructing at least 2 courses every 5 years, instructors commit to supporting the overall work of the Certification Committee for the benefit of all instructors, students and Hike Ontario. A $25 annual instructor fee supports vital operational elements such as instructor insurance to give courses across Ontario.
